Deepfake-Resistant KYC for 2026

The problem

Off-the-shelf generative tools can produce convincing live video of any face on any document. Traditional liveness checks (blink, turn head) are increasingly defeated.

A defense-in-depth approach

  1. Active liveness with random instructions ("show your left palm, then the back of the ID")
  2. Device + IP risk signals — VPN, emulator, repeated devices
  3. Document forensics — pixel-level tampering detection
  4. Phoenix synthetic-media scoring on every frame
  5. Cohort behavioral analysis — clusters of "different" users with identical typing cadence are usually one operator
  6. Step-up for high-risk users — manual review thresholds tuned by behavior

Don't ship the demo, ship the audit trail

Every decision (allow, step-up, deny) should be logged with evidence — regulators and your future fraud team will thank you.
