Boards want four answers
- Are we losing more or less to fraud than last quarter?
- What scam type would hurt us most this year?
- Is our spending on fraud defense paying off?
- Are we ready if the worst happens?
The four-slide template
- Slide 1: Fraud loss trend (4 quarters, by scam type)
- Slide 2: Top three scam risks with owners + target dates
- Slide 3: Investment alignment (controls vs. losses prevented vs. industry benchmarks)
- Slide 4: Resilience — last tabletop, last drill, last incident, lessons learned
What to avoid
- Pure technical metrics (mean-time-to-detect alone is meaningless to boards)
- Reactive narratives ("we responded to X" without trend context)
- "Things are fine" — boards know they're not, and lose trust in CISOs / CFOs who say so
